A possumlight was the light on a coal miner's hard hat that alerted danger in the air . . . they would wave it above their heads or below knee level to see if poisonous gas was seeping into the mine shaft . . . canary head gear, so to speak. I grew up in coal country and I am overzealous in my danger pattern recognition. This hat would be a good look for me. This is also the name of my documentary production company, Possumlight Productions.
